An example of dialectic 'reasoning' being challenged by traditional reasoning (in a secular setting) is Supreme Court Judge, Antonin Scalia's response to the liberal judges of the court. He believes that court decisions should be made upon the text and the history behind it (the intent of the framers) rather than according to the "intent" of the judges themselves (purposed in 'changing' society by interpreting law to fit with their ideology). The difference being (using the Father-child relationship) letting the Father's words speak for themselves, retaining tradition, rather than accepting the child's interpretation of them, engendering 'change.'
